My SB-400 is used for social/casual/vacation situations which for me, is most of the time. If you can get a flash, I'd say start with the SB-700 or SB-910 if you want a less steep learning curve. Read this link, and you'll immediately see stuff about backgrounds. What are you doing that requires 1/200 shutter speed for flash photography? If it is dark enough and your "background" doesn't have a wall or object behind your subject, you can get away with rather slow shutter speeds since the flash duration is something like 1/880 of a second. If you are very new to your D3200, you should get used to it first before taking the next step towards flash. I will likely guide her toward a second hand D90 instead since it will take her farther along the growth curve before she needs to upgrade. My daughter really wants a D3200 but I can see her outgrowing it pretty quickly. So our expectations move ahead so quickly that it's hard for our wallets to keep up. We can now see thousands of creative photos and learn in minutes how they are done. This is an issue with the information age. But when you start to ask it to move into the realm of creative photos requiring anything beyond the basics you will find yourself outgrowing your equipment in a hurry. The D3200 is capable of taking very high quality basic images. You gotta watch out for this even more during day shots where you're trying to use fill flash because it's very easy to overexpose a shot given 1/200 is the limit. As Jamuudsen says an ND filter may be your best option. One of them is the FPsync or high speed sync that higher level nikons have. While there are some good things about the D3200 it is an entry level camera which means it is missing features. If that isn't possible, you will need to use a neutral density (nd) filter. If you need a darker background, use a smaller aperture or lower iso. My query is that it possible to increase the shutter speed of my camera using speed light specially the entry level ones like Yongnuo YN 560-II or Nikon SB-400 or I need to go for more higher end version. I then realized that I could not increase the shutter speed beyond 1/200th of a sec. I was trying increase the shutter speed in an evening shoot so that I could darken the background while still illuminating my subject ahead using my built-in flash. I am very new to DSLR photography having recently bought a Nikon D3200.
